Managing data on a FTP server with a web browser is not as easy as you would want, especially when you can use a client application for the same purpose. FireFTP gives you the possibility of using Mozilla Firefox to access your FTP servers and manage their contents. Downloading and uploading data will feel just like copying items with a file manager.

As you might have guessed, FireFTP is an extension for Mozilla Firefox. You don't have to follow a wizard's instructions to install this add-on. You just need to download a 852 KB XPI file, access Firefox's Extensions page and select the file. The add-on will become operational after you restart Firefox.

While Mozilla Firefox is running, you may launch FireFTP by selecting the option with the same name, located in the Web Developer sub-menu. The add-on's interface can be displayed on a new window or tab or in a window grouping, depending on your preferences. You can explore your local folders and browse through a FTP server's contents on separate panels. Files and folders can be downloaded or uploaded by selecting them and clicking an arrow, located between the panels, or by clicking and dragging them from one side to another.

Besides connecting to a FTP server, you can also save it, along with its username, password and various connection settings. FireFTP allows you to connect with different security protocols, like SFTP, implicit SSL and others. Stored FTP servers can be selected from a drop menu, in the upper right corner of the interface and you may connect to the servers right away, without typing a username or password.

FireFTP also provides searching and filtering options and support for command lines, but a more useful feature is the add-on's synchronization function. You can use it to download and upload files, in a single run, to make two folders identical. Alternatively, you may decide on different courses of action for missing local or remote files.

Pros

You can access and manage FTP servers with Mozilla Firefox. FireFTP allows you to download and upload files by clicking and dragging them. It is also possible to save FTP servers, along with their settings, and to synchronize files between local and remote folders.

Cons

FireFTP works only with Mozilla Firefox. Besides that, you may not be able to install it on certain Firefox versions. You don't need to install and run specialized applications, if you want to manage your FTP servers. With FireFTP, organizing files on a FTP server will be an easy and straightforward process.
